HIBIKI: I'm really happy you feel that way.
TSUBASA: Though it's for that reason that I want to know why you fight. The war against the Noise isn't a game. You should know that now though, having faced death yourself.
HIBIKI: I dunno, really. Helping others is kind of my hobby, so...
TSUBASA: So? Is that it?
HIBIKI: Y'know how if you want to have the best results in sports or studies, you have to compete with others? There's no competition when it comes to helping people. I don't really have any talents or things worth being proud of, so I want to be useful to others, doing what I can. Hehehehe... he... The reason... The reason might be that incident. That show two years ago where Kanade-san burned her life away to save me. And not just her. Many people died there, that day. But I was allowed to live. And today I can eat, I can laugh. So I want to be useful to someone at the very least. 'Cause I want to be able to eat and laugh tomorrow, too. I want to help others.
TSUBASA: ... An optimistic reason, as expected of you. But that optimism might become suicide.
HIBIKI: Suicide?!
TSUBASA: Like sacrificing yourself for someone else, just to be free from the pain of old wounds. It might just be a way to punish yourself.
HIBIKI: Did I... say something wrong?
TSUBASA: ?
HIBIKI: Uh, um... h-hehehe...
TSUBASA: Wrong or not, it's not for me to decide. Think about it and decide for yourself.
HIBIKI: No matter how much I know, I'm still full of questions. When I touched Durandal, I was swallowed by darkness. Before I knew it, I was pointing that power at a person. If only I could use the Armed Gear, it wouldn't have had to come to that.
TSUBASA: Knowing how to use your power means you've become a warrior.
HIBIKI: A warrior?
TSUBASA: And that's all. It distances you from life. Are you determined to do that?
HIBIKI: ... I have things I want to protect. My uneventful, typical everyday life. I want to cherish those everydays. But I'm just thinking, not actually doing anything.
TSUBASA: What do you think of while fighting?
HIBIKI: ... If the Noise is attacking someone, I want to help them! As quickly, as shortly, as directly as possible. And if the opponent is not the Noise, but a person, I want them to understand the doubt in my heart, over whether or not we really have to fight.
TSUBASA: Focus on and express the feeling in your heart now as much as you can. That, itself, is your Armed Gear.
CHRIS: I'll beat you, you dumb little bitch!
HIBIKI: That isn't my name!
CHRIS: Hu-?
HIBIKI: I'm Tachibana Hibiki, age 15! My birthday is September 13, my blood type is O! According to the latest checkup, I'm 157cm tall! I'll tell you my weight if we get to know each other better! My hobby is helping people, and I love food and more food! Also, I've never had a boyfriend in my life!
CHRIS: W-what the hell are you talking about?
HIBIKI: Unlike the Noise, you can understand what I'm saying! I want to talk to you!
CHRIS: This isn't the time or the place to be so naive! (Her... movements changed. Is it determination?)
HIBIKI: Let's talk! We mustn't fight! We can talk, so we should-
CHRIS: Shut up! Humans can't understand each other! We're not made like that! I hate you... I hate you... I HATE YOU! I hate you for blabbing about stuff you don't know shit about!... I was ordered to kidnap you, but I don't care anymore. I'll beat the shit out of you with my own two hands! I'll turn you to dust!
HIBIKI: ... I won't go down that easily!
RYOKO: First, they increase the physical capabilities of the user. Second, they apply the so-called barrier coating to the skin, which prevents the disintegration on touch by Noise. Last, they tune the otherworldly frequencies of the Noise using the unique vibrations caused on impact, thus making them subject to the laws of nature of this world, and eliminate the protection conferred by the phase difference. These are the most significant abilities of Symphogear.
Likewise, these are the limitations of Symphogear when humans handle it. The price of the energy released by Symphogear is its merciless cost to the health of the user. The ultimate manifestation of that is the Swan Song. As long as there is any dissonance between the human and the relic generating the Symphogear, we cannot expect the burden on the user to diminish. My research points to that as well.
The only one capable of overcoming these limitations is Tachibana Hibiki, specimen number one in regards to fusion between human and relic.
In the activation experiment provided by Amou Kanade and Kazanari Tsubasa's concert, using the phonic gain produced by the audience, which was later amplified, we somehow managed to activate Nehushtan. However, Tachibana Hibiki did the same with the likewise completed relic Durandal, using nothing but her own power. It appears hardly debatable that the union of human and relic will cause another paradigm shift.
If humans could sing the Swan Songs without the negative effects and utilize the full potential of the relics, we would have proof of our release from the custodian's curse which has held us in its grip since time untold.
Finally we would be able to speak with each other using words of truth, and an age where the Lulu Amel could be the masters of their own fate would dawn. We would have transcended the past.
HIBIKI: Miku... You've never skipped a day of school in your life...--Tsubasa-san? (...) I thought I was determined enough. I wanted to use the power of Symphogear to protect that which I held most important. But it didn't work. All it took was the tiniest flaw to unravel my dreams and leave me with nothing. I need to become someone else... someone stronger...
TSUBASA: If that's what you truly care about, can't that 'flaw' become your strength? You don't need to become someone else to protect the things you hold dear.
HIBIKI: Tsubasa-san...
TSUBASA: Sorry. Kanade was much better than me at cheering people up.
HIBIKI: That's not true. My best friend was once here, offering me those same words of encouragement. But it didn't last. I'm hopeless, aren't I?... Tsubasa-san, does it still hurt?
TSUBASA: It's nothing to worry about. I just need to be careful.
HIBIKI: That's good to hear.
TSUBASA: The swan songs cause extensive damage to the body. They are songs of destruction that wipe both you and your opponent from existence. When you think about it, I got off pretty lightly.
HIBIKI: Swan songs... songs of destruction... But it's not like that! Two years ago, your songs were what gave me the strength to survive! Your songs aren't just for destruction! They lift people's spirits! I know that first-hand!
TSUBASA: Tachibana...
HIBIKI: So please cheer up! I love your songs!
TSUBASA: ... Now you're the one encouraging me.
HIBIKI: I'm not the only one fighting. I wanted to use the power of Symphogear to help others, but that was my conceit. I'm not the only one giving it my all. Everyone else is too!
(KANADE: Don't die! Open your eyes! Don't accept death!)
HIBIKI: You can't save someone with just your own power. That's why, on that day, Kanade-san told me not to accept death. Now I finally understand her words! It's not just because I was saved that I want to save others. It's because, since then, I've been carrying on in her place!
TSUBASA: Though it's for that reason that I want to know why you fight. The war against the Noise isn't a game. You should know that now though, having faced death yourself.
